Nice overview Geoff. I look forward to new insights. BTW, thanks for all you do with your mentoring of young writers. They are our thinking and caring new future.
This is so interesting, hearing about your process. I get all the stuff about getting in touch with that part of your brain that is somewhere in the back where it's dark... the creative subconscious. So very interesting.
OK, so, first of all, I love how you used one of your small stories to post this longer story - very efficient! And then, how you are taking us into your novel by way of engaging us in the process with clear examples. And last but not least how a random bit of chance (maybe a gift from the 4th dimension) gave your book a character! I can't pretend to have read this post slowly or thoroughly but I get so much out of the way you are framing your work on here, that I had to let you know.
Yesterday I sent out a dispatch from my book, which I am co-creating with my late husband. Just a snippet with a photo. It is so much fun to play on here and just do what strikes one, without planning every step out. Now I'm rambling.
I so appreciate your comment. And I look forward to look at your "dispatch" and, in advance, I am sorry your husband has passed. That must be a sorrow. I can only imagine. Though I am at the age where I have lost close friends and family so I have an inclining.
Geoff, quite an interesting story about the cave. And one thing that struck me about what you wrote here is the idea of being open to the surprise that one stumbles on while writing. For my own creative process, it's crucial.

Thanks so much, Alan.
Thank you for sharing the personal and profound experience you had in dealing with this character Doc.

Thanks, John. Yes, I think surprises are what make writing, creating, so much fun.
